Welcome to the Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan New York

The Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan New York (CEA/MNY) is a nonprofit organization of childbirth professionals and consumer advocates who are proudly committed to serving the birthing community since 1972. CEA/MNY has a nationally recognized Teacher Certification Program; our instructors are the first choice for women who are seeking information and education about their pregnancy and childbirth needs.

Our Mission

Cooperative Childbirth Education teachers believe that birth is part of family life and should be prepared for and anticipated with both confidence and information.

Cooperative Childbirth Education classes are designed to encourage women to recognize their innate abilities to cope successfully with the challenges of labor and birth in any setting.

Our Roots

The Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan New York was founded in 1972 by Doris Haire, internationally known consumer advocate in the field of childbearing, and Dorothea Lang, former President of the American College of Nurse Midwifery.

CEA/MNY emerged out of a movement that led to the birth of the International Childbirth Education Association in the 1960s. CEA/MNY is based on Family-Centered Maternity Care, a model that focuses on the priorities and needs of mothers, infants and partners.

As a volunteer organization, CEA/MNY welcomes the participation of aspiring childbirth educators, corporate and individual supporters.
