Eden is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, an international board certified lactation consultant, and a DONA-certified labor support doula.  She has been supporting families through pregnancy and early parenting for over a decade.

Eden is passionate about teaching because she believes parents have the right to make informed decisions about their births. She is a graduate of McGill University, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in Latin American & Caribbean Studies and Women’s Health. In 2008, she completed the Midwifery Assistant Training workshop with Ina May Gaskin at The Farm and in 2010, traveled to Senegal to volunteer in a maternity clinic. Eden has also worked as a clinical assistant in a family health practice that specializes in women’s health and has offered family planning and childbirth education workshops at a homeless shelter in Brooklyn. She currently serves as the President on the Board of Directors for CEA/MNY.

Classes offered: Group or private childbirth preparation classes that cover strategies for coping with normal labor and appropriate use of medical interventions, as well as breastfeeding and newborn care. Eden speaks French and Spanish.

As a certified cooperative childbirth educator, certificated lactation educator/counselor (CLEC), and DTI-certified postnatal doula, Jennette works regularly with expecting and new parents in New York City. She has taught “New Parent Survival” classes at South Slope Pediatrics and facilitated new parent support groups at Bend and Bloom Yoga and The Brooklyn Public Library. Working and volunteering as a full-spectrum doula and lactation support person, Jennette supports families at every stage in their reproductive journey. She is passionate about the concepts of radical hospitality and unconditional accompaniment, and sees her work as an educator and doula in that light. Her frequent, in-home contact with parents and newborns in the first 3-4 months of their lives together enhances her dedication to customized, individualized care and education. Jennette believes every person and family deserves support and is dedicated to inclusive education with no artificial agendas or assumptions. She holds degrees in theater performance and women’s studies from the University of Kansas. A transplanted midwesterner, Jennette now lives in Brooklyn with her partner and son.

Tricia is a Certified Cooperative Childbirth Educator and mother of three energetic children. Meeting the ever-present and everlasting life force of motherhood during the labor of her first child completely re-framed her life. Since becoming a mother, Tricia knows that all mothers, regardless of how they birth, are Wonder Women.  Mothers are the life sustaining force of their families and deserve the profound right to be loved, respected, and taken care of during their labor and birth and postpartum phase.  They especially deserve to know how labor and birth unfolds, and what options and choices they have during their experience.

Tricia's life experience with teaching deaf children, running a business, and parenting has provided her with a full tool belt for preparing couples for birth of their baby.  She is passionate about teaching because she deeply believes in the power that birth offers parents in the journey of life.  She strongly believes that learning to listen to your gut when preparing for the birth of your baby is the first act of parenting.

Ashley is a Certified Cooperative Childbirth Educator through CEA/MNY, a Birth and Postpartum Doula, and a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC).  Ashley is Infant / Child CPR Certified and is trained in Rebozo Techniques for ChildbirthDream Birth Imagery, and Spinning Babies. Ashley also holds a degree in Education and Political Science from Haverford College.  After years of working one-on-one with families as a doula, Ashley is now primarily focused on teaching small-group and private childbirth preparation classes throughout New York City. She is passionate about ‘myth-busting’ all things birth and parenting, presenting the ways in which a woman’s body is designed for physiological birth, and getting partners on board for the birth and newborn experience. Ashley prides herself on having rich relationships with the best pre and postnatal professionals in New York City and works to connect her students with additional support during pregnancy and the postpartum period. With little ones in tow herself, she is grateful to be within a close radius of her extended family as a born and raised New Yorker.

Bonu deCaires has been working with pregnant couples and newborns for nearly a decade. In addition to teaching childbirth education, Bonu is a DONA certified labor support doula. She holds a bachelor’s in biology from Amherst College, and a master’s in nutritional science from University of Massachusetts, where her thesis focused on herbs used in childbirth. She completed one year of postgraduate coursework in Anatomy and Physiology, and is certified in adult and infant CPR. Bonu taught comprehensive childbirth classes and newborn care at Realbirth for six years, and has taught at Tribeca Parenting since 2011. Bonu is also a mother, a member of The Metropolitan Doula Group and a mentor to aspiring childbirth educators through CEA/MNY.

Lisa is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, Lamaze certified childbirth educator, a DONA-certified labor support doula, and serves on the CEA/MNY board as Treasurer. As a result of her own two childbirth experiences, she became passionate about helping inform and support women and couples through pregnancy, birth, and into parenting. She and her husband–who are transplanted Texans and have lived in New York since 1999–desire to be a resource and encouragement to couples who want to start and raise families in the city. Lisa has worked in the music/entertainment industry, academia, corporate and nonprofit sectors. For a decade, Lisa worked with Hope for New York, a nonprofit that provides volunteer and financial resources to organizations that serve the poor and marginalized of New York City.

Meredith Fein Lichtenberg is the director of A Mother Is Born Pregnancy and Parenting Services, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in private practice, and has served on the board of CEA/MNY since 2005. Nicole Ganzekaufer is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, DONA certified birth doula and a certified lactation counselor, she was trained as an assistant midwife by Ina May Gaskin and the Farm midwives, and is also certified in neonatal resuscitation and infant/child/adult CPR. Nicole also serves as the Director of the NYC Doula Collective and as a mentor to newer doulas. She holds bachelor’s in sociology and anthropology, and a master’s in nonprofit management. Prior to her work in the NYC birth community, Nicole spent over a decade working in international and community development, with a focus on women’s issues. Through her education and work Nicole has specialized on issues including community development, gender, health and housing policy. Since the birth of her first child in 2010, Nicole has shifted her focus to the practices and policies surrounding women’s health care locally and internationally, and to the experiences of motherhood and birth. Nicole serves as the Member-at-Large, TCP, on the Board of Directors for CEA/MNY.

As a childbirth educator, Margot Hodes considers it a privilege to play a small part in an expectant family’s big journey to parenthood. Margot is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, certified lactation counselor, DONA trained doula and certified health education specialist. She received her Ed.D. in Health Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and taught as an adjunct faculty member there for many years. She also has her Masters in Counseling from New York University and has worked in community health centers and other non-profit agencies with parents, families and adolescents toward their goals of achieving healthier living since 1994. Margot teaches group and private classes in childbirth preparation, breastfeeding preparation and newborn care. She also facilitates new parent support groups and provides private consultations for breastfeeding support.

Kelly was initially drawn to this work as the result of her own birth experiences, but it was a few years later in 2005 when she first began working with pregnant women as a prenatal yoga teacher. Kelly is a registered prenatal yoga teacher, certified cooperative childbirth educator, birth doula, certified educator of infant massage and prenatal yoga teacher trainer. Kelly also holds a master’s in medical geography from Hunter College. She is the mother of three sons.

Emily Cohen-Moreira is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, certified lactation counselor, and labor support doula. She holds bachelors degree in Romance Languages from the University of Pennsylvania. Emily made her way to pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding work through her lifelong interest in advocacy and women’s rights. After working as a bilingual patient advocate at the Philadelphia Women’s Center and a year living in Taiwan, she came home and found work at Realbirth, a former childbirth education program in NYC.

In July 2010, she was hired to found Tribeca Parenting, a pregnancy, birth, and new parent education center with classes throughout the greater NYC area. While serving as Director of Tribeca Parenting, Emily became a childbirth educator, birth doula, and lactation counselor. She designed Tribeca Parenting’s prenatal breastfeeding education program and implemented drop-in support groups for new moms. As a certified lactation counselor, Emily teaches Newborn Care classes, prenatal breastfeeding preparation courses, runs breastfeeding support groups, and provides individualized counseling. She has advised pediatricians on early establishment of breastfeeding and lactation issues and currently offer in-office support at West Care Pediatrics. Emily speaks Spanish, Italian and Portuguese

Lena DeGloma’s experience as a certified birth doula, certified lactation counselor, licensed massage therapist, and clinical herbalist informs her approach to holistic childbirth education. She is the founder and owner of Red Moon Wellness in Park Slope, Brooklyn – a wellness practice that offers therapeutic massage, clinical herbal medicine, and childbirth services. Lena currently serves on the Board of Directors of the CEA/MNY as the Co-Coordinator of the Teacher Certification Program (TCP). She also teaches Optimal Nutrition for the Childbearing Cycle and Teaching Labor Support for the TCP and serves as a mentor for teacher trainees. Lena has been attending births as a doula at homes, hospitals and birth centers for nearly a decade and was certified as a birth doula by homebirth midwife and educator Susanrachel Condon of Niara Healing Arts. She also completed an advanced doula training with Ina May Gaskin and renowned doula instructor and film director (Orgasmic Birth), Debra Pascali-Bonaro. Lena holds a Master of Science in Clinical Herbal Medicine from Maryland University of Integrative Health, where she wrote her master’s thesis on uterine contractility and herbs. She is a part-time faculty member at the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism in Manhattan where she teaches classes on female reproductive health and herbal therapeutics. Lena has also written prenatal massage curriculum, supervised student massage clinics, and taught massage and at two different massage therapy programs in New York State. Before her work in wellness and childbirth, Lena worked as a coordinator of a community education program focused on issues of gender-based violence and on a domestic violence response team in New Brunswick, NJ, and has lived and worked on several organic farms and eco-villages in Costa Rica.

Tamara Wrenn is the Executive Director and founder of Just Us Women Productions; a public health consulting firm specializing in providing technical assistance services that address preconception, prenatal and interconceptional health with an emphasis on the life course model as a framework. A certified childbirth paraprofessional, Tamara is trained in the delivery of comprehensive non-clinical services for women before, during and after pregnancy. This includes childbirth education, professional labor support, breastfeeding and maternal fitness. A native New Yorker from the Bronx, she is the mother of one.

Jessie Levey is honored to work with families as they navigate through their experiences with pregnancy and birth. She was certified as a Cooperative Childbirth Educator in 2001 and has been working with expectant families ever since. She currently teaches childbirth preparation classes at River and Mountain Midwifery in New Paltz, NY. She also teaches childbirth, VBAC, sibling preparation and infant care classes privately in the Hudson Valley. Jessie served on the CEA/MNY board as the Teacher Certification Program Coordinator and member of the education committee for many years. She teaches the Cesarean Birth and Prevention class as part of CEA/MNY’s annual workshops and continues to mentor TCP students. Past positions include Childbirth Educator at Elizabeth Seton Childbearing Center and Realbirth in New York City. In addition to her work with pregnancy and birth, Jessie has been teaching modern dance to people of all ages for over 25 years. She is the founder, director of and teacher at Barefoot Dance Center. Propelled by the birth of her first child in 2008 to explore a career change, Leigh Kader is a certified cooperative childbirth educator and a DONA certified labor support doula. Leigh knows firsthand the benefits of a comprehensive childbirth education as well as the presence of continuous emotional and physical support during childbirth. Experienced at supporting laboring women in a variety of birthing facilities from hospital and birthing center to home births, Leigh appreciates that childbirth is an intensely personal experience that each family defines differently. Her goal is to help women and their partners attain as positive a birth experience as possible. Leigh is the Vice President of the CEA/MNY Board of Directors, and lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children and enjoys jogging in Prospect Park and catching up on ten-year-old television series.

Molly Weingrod has been working with children and families for over a decade, formerly in New York City, and now in Philadelphia, wearing a variety of hats. She has a background in education and whole foods nutrition, as well as birth. She is a doula (DONA), childbirth educator (CEA/MNY), and birth counselor (certified by psychologist Gayle Peterson), and now primarily teaches Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting ala Nancy Bardacke of Mindful Birthing at Mindful Birth Philadelphia.  When she is not teaching, Molly is usually hanging out with her four young kids, who offer her many daily opportunities to practice mindfulness!

Erin is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, DONA-trained labor and postpartum doula and certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. She came into this work after becoming a first-time mom and findingthe childbirth classes she took while pregnant to be very important and empowering. While expecting her second daughter, Erin decided to move from the corporate world into the professional world of childbirth. Since then she has worked with pregnant moms and parents of all different backgrounds throughout the city at several hospitals, birth centers and at home.  No matter what type of birth parents envision, Erin's goal is to provide nurturing, non-judgmental support as well as the tools to enable them to participate and make informed decisions throughout the birth and postpartum period.   Erin resides in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn with her husband, two girls and their sweet pup.

Jayne Freeman, also known locally as "Mamarama",  has been working with pregnant families for over eight years in and around Jersey City, where she has lived for 15 years. She is a certified childbirth educator, breastfeeding counselor and postpartum doula.  Jayne has taught on MTV and for several pediatric practices & hospitals; she was a consultant for the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health where she directed the Postpartum Mood Disorder Initiative. In 2014 she successfully petitioned the PATH train to create better awareness and seating signage for pregnant passengers. She now maintains a private practice in Pregnancy and Birth Counseling and Childbirth Education offering individual counseling and refresher classes. She is a former president of CEA/MNY and served on its Board of Directors for 22 years. A proud mother and grandmother, Ellen has two daughters and a grandson.

Classes offered: Private refresher classes for couples planning hospital, birthing center or home birth.

Pregnancy and birth counseling: A short-term counseling model to address fears and concerns relating to childbirth. This counseling may also be helpful to women dealing with infertility, postpartum adjustment or pregnancy loss.
