Vanessa Anton, CCCE, CLC
Vanessa has worked with families as a doula, childbirth educator, breastfeeding consultant and parenting educator since 1994. After completing her medical training in the emergency care field she embarked on a mission to make CPR more accessible to families. She founded Common Sense CPR in 2010. She lives in Forest Hills with her nineteen year old son, Zen, her personal chef/partner Geoff, and three dogs.

Eden Bertrang, CCCE, IBCLC, CD(DONA)
Eden is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, international board certified lactation consultant, and DONA certified labor support doula. She is passionate about teaching because she believes women have the right to make informed decisions about their births. Eden completed the Midwifery Assistant Training workshop with Ina May Gaskin at The Farm and earned her neonatal resuscitation certification in affiliation with the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association. She has also worked as a clinical assistant in a family health practice that specializes in women’s health. In 2010, she traveled to Senegal to volunteer in a maternity clinic. Eden currently serves as the Vice President on the Board of Directors for CEA/MNY.

Erin Brof, CCCE, CLC
Erin is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, DONA-trained labor support doula and certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice.
Erin came into this work after becoming a first-time mom and found the childbirth classes she took while pregnant to be very empowering and extremely helpful. While expecting her second daughter, Erin decided to move into the professional world of childbirth and newborn education. She began by researching training programs that embrace the innate physiological normalcy of childbirth and those that embarked on compassionate, evidence-based labor and newborn care support. Erin believes that no matter what type of birth you envision for yourself, all women should be educated on the basic physiological processes and support options for pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. Erin and her family reside in Brooklyn.

Ashley Brichter, CCCE, CLC
Ashley is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, certified lactation counselor, postpartum and labor support doula. She is infant/child CPR certified and has trained in rebozo techniques for childbirth, DreamBirth Imagery, and Spinning Babies.
Ashley has worked thoughtfully to build a creative and flexible career that would combine her nurturing instincts, organizational nature, passion for education, and culinary prowess. Since graduating from Haverford College with a BA in education and political science, she has collected a wealth of wonky experience such as managing a farm and farm-to-table restaurant, starting a cooperative pre-school, and marketing NYC apartments as vacation-rentals.
Ashley is a born and raised New Yorker. She is excited that her daughter shares the same identity, though she regularly threatens to move to Maine or other places in the world to have something like a “yard” or “quality of life.” For now, Ashley feels lucky close to family and never takes for granted the support she has around her as she grows her family and her business.

Ellen Chuse, CCCE
Ellen Chuse has been working with birthing women and their families since 1984. She maintains a private practice in Pregnancy and Birth Counseling and Childbirth Education, offering group classes in Brooklyn for both hospital and home birth. Individual counseling and refresher classes are also available. Ellen has facilitated New Mothers’ groups for more than 16 years and currently leads groups in Brooklyn. She is a former president of CEA/MNY and has served on its Board of Directors for 22 years. A proud mother and grandmother, Ellen has two daughters and a grandson.
Classes offered: Group and private classes offered in Brooklyn. Childbirth Preparation classes for home birth, including breastfeeding and newborn care. Private refresher classes, pregnancy and birth counseling.
Pregnancy and birth counseling: A short-term counseling model to address fears and concerns relating to childbirth. This counseling may also be helpful to women dealing with infertility, postpartum adjustment or pregnancy loss.
Emily Cohen-Moreira, CCCE, CLC
Emily Cohen-Moreira is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, certified lactation counselor, and labor support doula. She holds bachelors degree in Romance Languages from the University of Pennsylvania. Emily made her way to pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding work through her lifelong interest in advocacy and women’s rights. After working as a bilingual patient advocate at the Philadelphia Women’s Center and a year living in Taiwan, she came home and found work at Realbirth, a former childbirth education program in NYC.
In July 2010, she was hired to found Tribeca Parenting, a pregnancy, birth, and new parent education center with classes throughout the greater NYC area. While serving as Director of Tribeca Parenting, Emily became a childbirth educator, birth doula, and lactation counselor. She designed Tribeca Parenting’s prenatal breastfeeding education program and implemented drop-in support groups for new moms. As a certified lactation counselor, Emily teaches Newborn Care classes, prenatal breastfeeding preparation courses, runs breastfeeding support groups, and provides individualized counseling. She has advised pediatricians on early establishment of breastfeeding and lactation issues and currently offer in-office support at West Care Pediatrics. Emily speaks Spanish, Italian and Portuguese

Bonu deCaires, CCCE, CD(DONA)
Bonu deCaires has been working with pregnant couples and newborns for nearly a decade. In addition to teaching childbirth education, Bonu is a DONA certified labor support doula. She holds a bachelor’s in biology from Amherst College, and a master’s in nutritional science from University of Massachusetts, where her thesis focused on herbs used in childbirth. She completed one year of postgraduate coursework in Anatomy and Physiology, and is certified in adult and infant CPR. Bonu taught comprehensive childbirth classes and newborn care at Realbirth for six years, and has taught at Tribeca Parenting since 2011. Bonu is also a mother, a member of The Metropolitan Doula Group and a mentor to aspiring childbirth educators through CEA/MNY.

Lena DeGloma, CCCE, MS, LMT, CD, CLC
Lena DeGloma is a licensed massage therapist, labor support doula, lactation counselor, and certified cooperative childbirth educator. Her private practice, Red Moon Wellness, offers therapeutic prenatal and postnatal massage as well as birth doula services, birth consultations, childbirth education and lactation counseling in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Lena was certified as a birth doula and trained in infant massage by homebirth midwife and educator Susanrachel Condon of Niara Healing Arts. She also completed an advanced doula training with Ina May Gaskin and renowned doula trainer and film director (Orgasmic Birth), Debra Pascali-Bonaro. She studied massage therapy at the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY, and holds a Bachelor of Arts with Highest Honors in psychology and women’s and gender studies from Rutgers University. She is currently working on her Master of Science in clinical herbal medicine and nutrition at Maryland University of Integrative Health. Lena has supervised student massage clinics, taught massage courses and written prenatal massage curriculum at Queensborough Community College in Bayside and the Finger Lakes School of Massage. Lena worked as a coordinator of a community education program focused on issues of gender-based violence and on a domestic violence response team in New Brunswick, NJ, and has lived and worked on several organic farms and eco-villages in Costa Rica.
Classes/Services: Lena teaches holistic childbirth education, newborn care and breastfeeding classes at Red Moon Wellness, as well as at Bend and Bloom Yoga, both in Park Slope. Lena offers a comprehensive class series for parents planning to give birth at home, in a hospital or birth center. Lena offers birth doula services, birth tub rentals, lactation counseling, private birth consultations, prenatal and postnatal massage and infant massage instruction for parents.
Caitlin Fitzgordon, CCCE
Caitlin teaches childbirth education classes privately and through Birth Day Presence. She also supports families as a postpartum doula providing in home assistance right after the birth. In addition, she is a life coach specializing in encouraging women to make time for themselves so they feel more energy, less stress and more contentment in their full (and often too busy) lives. She practices finding the beauty in life while also recognizing the learning that comes from struggle. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, two kids, two cats and a dog.

Jayne Freeman, CCCE
After the birth of her two daughters, Jayne started her own public access show called “Mamarama” as a vehicle to teach about pregnancy, birth and becoming a new parent. Five years later she became a certified cooperative childbirth educator and still produces her own television show, as well as a companion blog. Jayne has worked with couples in Jersey City, where she lives, in addition to teaching pregnant teenagers at local high schools. More recently, she was part of an initiative to help 22 New Jersey hospitals create support groups for postnatal women as a means to identify and treat postpartum mood disorder. Jayne continues to teach, write, blog and film about topics that inspire her in the field of women’s health and the perinatal experience. Jayne serves as the TCP Co-Coordinator on the Board of Directors for CEA/MNY.

Nicole Ganzekaufer, CCCE, CD(DONA), CLC
Nicole Ganzekaufer is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, DONA certified birth doula and a certified lactation counselor, she was trained as an assistant midwife by Ina May Gaskin and the Farm midwives, and is also certified in neonatal resuscitation and infant/child/adult CPR. Nicole also serves as the Director of the NYC Doula Collective and as a mentor to newer doulas. She holds bachelor’s in sociology and anthropology, and a master’s in nonprofit management. Prior to her work in the NYC birth community, Nicole spent over a decade working in international and community development, with a focus on women’s issues. Through her education and work Nicole has specialized on issues including community development, gender, health and housing policy. Since the birth of her first child in 2010, Nicole has shifted her focus to the practices and policies surrounding women’s health care locally and internationally, and to the experiences of motherhood and birth. Nicole serves as the Member-at-Large, TCP, on the Board of Directors for CEA/MNY.

Samantha Hillstrom, CCCE, CD(DONA)
Samantha Hillstrom moved from TV production to reproduction when she decided to leave her career as a news producer to pursue her lifelong passion of childbirth. Samantha is a certified cooperative childbirth educator and DONA certified labor support doula. She sits on the board of directors for the Doulas Association of Southern California (DASC). Samantha previously served on the board of directors for CEA/MNY and Choices in Childbirth. Samantha holds a bachelors degree in communications, Cum Laude. She relocated to Los Angeles from NYC, where she lived for over ten years.

LGBTQ-only childbirth education classes that provide a positive space to celebrate all families. Classes contain the same curriculum and pay special attention to the roles and genders of both partners.
Margot Hodes, CCCE, CHES, CLC
As a childbirth educator, Margot Hodes considers it a privilege to play a small part in an expectant family’s big journey to parenthood. Margot is a certified cooperative childbirth educator, certified lactation counselor, DONA trained doula and certified health education specialist. She received her Ed.D. in Health Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and taught as an adjunct faculty member there for many years. She also has her Masters in Counseling from New York University and has worked in community health centers and other non-profit agencies with parents, families and adolescents toward their goals of achieving healthier living since 1994. Margot teaches group and private classes in childbirth preparation, breastfeeding preparation and newborn care. She also facilitates new parent support groups and provides private consultations for breastfeeding support.

Leigh Kader, CCCE, CD(DONA)
Propelled by the birth of her first child in 2008 to explore a career change, Leigh Kader is a certified cooperative childbirth educator and a DONA certified labor support doula. Leigh knows firsthand the benefits of a comprehensive childbirth education as well as the presence of continuous emotional and physical support during childbirth. Experienced at supporting laboring women in a variety of birthing facilities from hospital and birthing center to home births, Leigh appreciates that childbirth is an intensely personal experience that each family defines differently. Her goal is to help women and their partners attain as positive a birth experience as possible. Leigh lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children and enjoys jogging in Prospect Park and catching up on ten-year-old television series.

Jessie Levey, CCCE
Jessie Levey is honored to work with families as they navigate through their experiences with pregnancy and birth. She was certified as a Cooperative Childbirth Educator in 2001 and has been working with expectant families ever since. She currently teaches childbirth preparation classes at River and Mountain Midwifery in New Paltz, NY. She also teaches childbirth, VBAC, sibling preparation and infant care classes privately in the Hudson Valley. Jessie served on the CEA/MNY board as the Teacher Certification Program Coordinator and member of the education committee for many years. She teaches the Cesarean Birth and Prevention class as part of CEA/MNY’s annual workshops and continues to mentor TCP students. Past positions include Childbirth Educator at Elizabeth Seton Childbearing Center and Realbirth in New York City. Erica has been a childbirth and newborn care educator in New York City since 1995. She is the author of The Big Book of Birth, the critically acclaimed guide to labor published by Penguin. She has taught at some of New York’s leading hospitals, including Long Island College Hospital, the Elizabeth Seton Childbearing Center and the New York Foundling Hospital. Erica was the founder of Realbirth, the pioneering childbirth and parenting education center for New York City, which she ran for seven years. Erica also runs a private practice, providing a valuable resource to parents across the United States. Ceridwen Morris, CCCE
Described by The New York Times as “a childbirth educator and noted crunchy-but-generally-reasonable voice on birthing topics,” Ceridwen Morris has been teaching about childbirth and baby care since 2009. She is the co-author of From The Hips: A Comprehensive, Open-Minded, Uncensored, Totally Honest Guide to Pregnancy, Birth and Becoming a Parent (Three Rivers: 2007). She spent many years as a columnist and blogger for Babble.com, as well as writing for Huffington Post, Elle, Parenting, and Fit Pregnancy magazines. Ceridwen has taught at Realbirth, Pregnancy & Parenting and City Births, and has served on the CEA/MNY Board of Directors since 2008.
Sarah Moore, CCCE, CD(DONA)
Sarah has bachelor’s from Brown University, and a master’s in playwriting from New York University. Her work in the childbirth community began after the births of her two children, Lola and Oscar. She is a DONA certified labor support doula and certified cooperative childbirth educator. She has also served on the CEA/MNY Board of Directors.

Tricia Phillips, CCCE
Tricia is a certified cooperative childbirth educator and mother of three energetic children. Before becoming a mother, Tricia was an elementary school teacher of the deaf and co-owner with her husband of their beer bar in Park Slope and beer store in Grand Central Terminal. During the birth of her first child, Tricia was transformed. She saw her life and the world around her in a renewed way, and knew that birth work was the work she wanted to be doing.
Tricia’s life experience with teaching, running a business, and parenting has provided her with a full tool belt for preparing couples for the birth of their baby. She is passionate about teaching because she deeply believe in the power that birth offers mothers and fathers in the journey of life. She strongly believes that learning to listen to your gut when preparing for the birth of your baby is the first act of parenting. Tricia lives in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn with her husband and three children.

Kelly Swails, CCCE, RPYT, CEIM, MA
Kelly was initially drawn to this work as the result of her own birth experiences, but it was a few years later in 2005 when she first began working with pregnant women as a prenatal yoga teacher. Kelly is a registered prenatal yoga teacher, certified cooperative childbirth educator, birth doula, certified educator of infant massage and prenatal yoga teacher trainer. Kelly also holds a master’s in medical geography from Hunter College. She is the mother of three sons.

Lisa Greaves Taylor, CCCE, CD(DONA)
Lisa is a certified cooperative childbirth educator and a DONA certified labor support doula. As a result of her own two childbirth experiences, she became passionate about helping inform and support women and couples through pregnancy, birth, and into parenting. She and her husband–who are transplanted Texans and have lived in New York since 1999–desire to be a resource and encouragement to couples who want to start and raise families in the city. Lisa holds a bachelor’s in journalism from Baylor University and has worked in the music industry, academia, corporate and nonprofit sectors. For a decade, Lisa worked with Hope for New York, a nonprofit that provides volunteer and financial resources to organizations that serve the poor and marginalized of New York City.

Chantal Traub, CCCE, CD
Chantal has been teaching and working with pregnant mothers since 1996. She is a Certified Cooperative Childbirth Educator, Certified Doula and Prenatal Yoga Teacher. In her childbirth education classes, Chantal applies her extensive studies of yoga and anatomy and her experience as a doula. Chantal has taught group classes at Realbirth and Tribeca Parenting. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their two children.
Molly Weingrod, CCCE, CD
Molly is a certified childbirth educator and DONAcertified labor support doula. With a background in holistic food and health as well as early childhood education, Molly has worked with parents, children and babies from a variety of perspectives. When she’s not reading or teaching about birth, she is usually hanging out with the three children she gave birth to in the last five years.

Tamara Wrenn, CCCE
Tamara Wrenn is the Executive Director and founder of Just Us Women Productions; a public health consulting firm specializing in providing technical assistance services that address preconception, prenatal and interconceptional health with an emphasis on the life course model as a framework. A certified childbirth paraprofessional, Tamara is trained in the delivery of comprehensive non-clinical services for women before, during and after pregnancy. This includes childbirth education, professional labor support, breastfeeding and maternal fitness. A native New Yorker from the Bronx, she is the mother of one.
